Turning on Our HP Lights

Culture Inc.

3619 Sixth Avenue, Saturday, August 16, 2008, 1 to 4 pm.

Culture Inc. made its formal debut today with their Parks Area "Back to School Party"
for students 10 to 16 years old..  Arts and crafts, activities, and lots of kid friendly
foods were on the menu -- as well as plenty of prizes.

Good Turn out.  Some 40 or so neighborhood kids participated.  Obviously, most
of the kids are inside.

Inside Job.  With special markers, they printed their "Culture Inc." logo backwards
on their front window.

Inside Activities.  Some of the kids worked at their work table, others spilled
over onto the floor.

More Inside Activities.  It looked like some of the guys were dancing?  Or maybe
just kicking each other?  Hard to tell these days.

Some of the littler dudes were helping themselves to lemonade.  There's macaroni
and cheese hiding under that aluminum foil.

And what's a party without ice cream and cake and lots of both?  The pizza showed
up later -- for dessert.

Most preferred chocolate cake.  Others opted for the macaroni and cheese and
boxes of pizza.  Plenty of balloons to help set the tone.

While some ate, others worked on their art and/or craft projects.

The more balloons, the merrier.

More art.  Top right reminiscent of Van Gogh.

Time to call in the "hoopers."

One at a time?  No way.

Culture Inc. Director Rachel Rockwell egged on the junior hoopers and eventually
tried one on for size herself.

Plenty of room for improvement.  Watch that smirk.

If at first you don't succeed ...

... hoop till you drop.

Or work at the arts table.

Or head on outside where there's more room.

It seems so easy for the kids.

Although not everyone catches on at first.

You can have your cake and eat it too.

It's difficult to paint and eat at the same time, but nada es impossible.

One last look at the hoopers and it's 4 pm -- time to go.

Culture Inc. exists to provide preteens and teens a safe and nurturing place after school.
Culture Inc. is committed to do everything in its power to provide youth with the tools and

diversity; all through song, dance, and art.

Culture Inc. features a daily after school drop-in program from 2:45 to 6:15 pm.

Extra Pictures:

Art work inspired by Jackson Pollock.

Always time to rassle.

Always time for a juice drink.

The FIRE August 31, 2008:

Taped off Sunday morning, August 31, 2008.

Where the fire department entered the building.

T-Shirt company to the left where the fire department went in first.  Whoops.

Plenty of smoke to go around.  Brian says "No morning donuts for two weeks."

And plenty of yellow tape to go around also.
