Turning on Our HP Lights

You bet we blow our own horns.  If not us, then ...?

George Russell came up with this theme worth stealing.

Naturally, you’ll see “Buy Local” signs in the windows of many of the businesses in the Parks Area.

July, 2002 sixteen Highland Park merchants purchased WHO-TV ads in July, August, and September to promote our businesses as well as the Highland Park area.

Summer, 2003 many of these same businesses ran a “Discover Highland Park” ad campaign in the Press-Citizen newspaper.

Summer, 2004 after the Des Moines Register bought the Press-Citizen, some dozen area merchants run a full page ad every month.  You see it on the back page of their Metro section the last week of each month -- Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Fall, 2004, five Sixth Avenue merchants cooperated in on-site radio broadcasts with KRNT-AM.  Each merchant promoted their own specials.  Each merchant was interviewed during the two-hour broadcasts.  Our main message -- Sixth Avenue is open again (prettier than ever) and ready for business.

Well, it was beggars' night.

In addition to our specials, listeners got to enter a drawing for a Hawaiian vacation.

Mary Day hosted this particular radio session.
