Turning on Our HP Lights

June 15, 2006 meeting of our Sweet Corn Day Committee.  There were many other meetings.

July 15, 9 am.  Lots of action in front of the hardware store.

It's just a coincidence that the beer tent was the first one up.

1 pm.  All the tents were erected (by the North High football players) and 6th Avenue was closed.

4 pm.  The Kens were ready to rock and roll on our Sweet Corn Day.

5 pm.  Band in back checking their instruments.  Crowds still arriving.

No need to call in the clowns, they're already here.

KIOA-FM broadcast during the event and gave us all a chance to win this classic '78 Corvette.

These two young ladies from KIOA-FM Assisted Tim White who also MCed our Sweet Corn Day.

Even younger celebrants showed up to eat corn.

The Highland Park Little League sold tickets to dunk a North High cheerleader.

And there were plenty of cheerleaders around.  They also bussed tables.

The crowd starts to gather.

And the Blues Book Band hit the stage with their amps cranking.

Just in case we got a couple notches past rowdy.

For some strange reason, kids like to get their faces painted.

Northridge Baptist Church hosted a mini-carnival at the north end of our Sweet Corn Day.

A couple people mentioned something about the heat.

This guy also thought it was too hot.

But most people did not even notice the heat.  They were enjoying the cool Blues Book Band.

Of course the carbonated beverage sellers were quite busy.

And the carbonated beverage consumers were whooping it up.

Some sort of cookie sale going on here.

Here's one of the nomadic tent builders keeping on trucking.

On the other side of the road, they were consuming mass quantities of Sweet Corn.

And the smiling staff did their best to stuff everyone.

Which they did very successfully.

And they just kept eating that corn, barbecue sandwich, watermelon, and ice tea.

The line slowed as the evening wound down.

Technically, the festivities officially ended at 9:30.  They did not.  LA
