Turning on Our HP Lights

Every year we start by closing off two blocks of Sixth Avenue.

Numerous volunteers do the heavy lifting that makes the event a success.

Slaving away over the hot corn roaster.

At least they're in the shade.

Corn is roasted ahead and kept hot in these huge roasters.

Here's your watermelon station.  You won't see it when the action starts.

The eating tents are ready.

Our servers are ready.

Special Note:  Since your webmeister was selling tickets 99% of the time, we have pictures taken by Bob Wheeler.  He shot 215 photos.  We'll pick out some of the ones we like best.  If we left you out, we're sorry.  LA

Hot Tamale and the Red Hots are ready.

Our soft drink ticket sellers are ready.

So let the crowds begin.

Bobbing for ice cubes.

Our bar tenders two minutes before the rush.

Tim White from KIOA-FM MCed the event.

Getting ready early to listen to Hot Tamale and the Red Hots.

Not everyone fits into the food tents at once.

It's always a good time to talk with friends.

Or, it's an excellent time to get your sugar jolt.

Here's the sugar cookers not looking particularly guilty.

Standing in line to buy their "all you can eat" Corn Tickets.

Usually the HP Little League puts a clown in their dunk tank.  Not this year.

Looks like the local vandals are defacing faces.

Looks like a future quarterback in action.

And the future B-Ballers were also in action.

Some people are just natural hams.

Our servers are in action also.

Lots of customers.  Lots of servers.

We packed all three food tents.

More corn eaters.

Schmoozing in Chuck's Alley.

This kid likes his desserts.

An anomaly -- no one in the beer ticket line.

Schmoozing in the middle of the street.

Who is this debonair gentleman.

Plenty of activities for the kids.

Not sure who she is arguing with.

Would you like another ear of corn?

Heavy wagering going on at the north end.

And games of skill and dexterity.

Look again.  The ball's in play.  She's nailed those bottles.

Of course there were dogs.

Tim White schmoozing with his fans.

And still the corn eaters are eating corn.

"Not much to see here -- except for knees."

Teetotalers were served raspberry tea.

"Hey!  Look at me."

There's always one in every crowd -- sometimes two.

You'll never know how many watermelons died for your appetite.

Someone always has to get out on the dance floor first.

Here's the ringleader.

We're at maybe the middle here.  We will take a one week break.  LA
