Turning on Our HP Lights

July 18, 2009

LA
Could not celebrate HP Sweet Corn Day without closing Sixth Avenue.  2009 -- our best year yet.

LA
135 dozen ears of freshly picked ears of sweet corn in that truck.

LA
Tent protects the roasters from the hot sun.  Bob Wheeler (our Main Photographer) taking pictures.

LA
Eating area to house hundreds of hungry corn eaters.

LA
Ready crew manning the beer tent.

LA
Uniform of the day -- lime green T-shirts with our HP Smiling Sweet Corn Logo.

LA
Young and old alike purchased the commemorative T-shirts.

LA
Line-up of our full ten years of Sweet Corn Days.  Gets better every year.

LA
We saw a few T-shirts from past years among our working crew.

LA
Barbecued pork cooks checking out the sandwich fillings.

Normally  I take most of the pictures at these events.  However I had to sell tickets once we opened.  So Bob Wheeler photographed the rest of these pics.  Thanks, Bob, for a great job.  LA

BW

BW
Adding the table cloths and other finishing touches.

BW
Adding the watermelon area.  No spitting please.

BW
Our T-shirt sellers also held a corn-eating contest.  More on this later.

BW
Keeping on trucking.

BW
One of our main instigators -- Bill Wheeler -- the guy in the red shirt.

BW
And still more work in progress.

BW
Lots of North High Cheerleasers to help out.

BW
The corn cookers next to the corn roaster are getting roasted themselves.

BW
Some of thev early arrivers had extra energy to burn.

BW
Cub Scout Pack 68 members were there to help out also.

BW
And to hold a Cake Auction.

BW
Kind of tall for a cub scout but he was helpful also.

BW
Blues Society members are required to wear sun glasse.  They provided our band.

BW
And what July event would be complete without Sno-Cones and Pop Corn?

BW
And cotton candy?

BW
It must be 4:30 because the corn eaters are starting to line up.

BW
Lots of cooked corn in these insulated containers.

BW
Lots of North High cheerleaders to distribute the corn.

BW
Some eat more corn than others.

BW
Lots of power corn eaters under the big top.

BW
Not everyone fit under the big tent.  No prob.

BW
Band starting to warm up.

BW
Tim White MC-ed the event.

BW
Warming up for Halloween at the watermelon station.

BW
Plenty of watermelon for the Pack 68 cub scouts.

BW
Short break at the iced tea station.

BW
Plenty of corn chomping still going on.

BW
And plenty of just general roaming around going on.

BW
Still time to sign up for the Corn Eating Contest.

BW
Good time to have your face painted.

BW
Plenty of people still arriving.

BW
And plenty of people taking it easy.

Wrap Up.  Festivities continued until way past sun down.  We will add the financial details at a later time.  LA
