Saylorville Trail

Sixth and Euclid Streetscape

Turning on Our HP Lights

Inter-Urban?  Way west of the Des Moines River you'll find a boulevard named Urbandale.  It runs thru Urbandale and Beaverdale.  The Inter-Urban streetcar and tracks used to run along that center median.  The Inter-urban trail now covers much of that route.  This very wide sidewalk runs west from 50th to nearly 70th Street.

At Beaver.  Urbandale and Beaver Avenue intersect here.  The Beaverdale neighborhood Association planted the flowers this spring.  They put the trees in years ago.

Lots of Trees.  They planted these trees and watered them until they caught on.  They look to be about 15 years old now.

Entrance at 34th.  After some two miles of street lanes, the Inter-Urban enters another tree-canopied mini-jungle.  It only goes to 30th Street but is nearly a mile long -- a pleasant coast downhill, a real leg exercise heading uphill.

Snaky Design.  Most of the trail twists and turns like this.  Perfect for joggers and walkers.  Bikers need to proceed with caution.

West View from 30th.  Here the Inter-Urban exits on to 30th Street.  There are stop signs for the bikers to heed carefully.  Cars on both sides of 30th come down their respective hills at non-stopping speeds.

East View on 30th.  You can pump on the Inter-Urban trail all the way to the Martin Luther King, Jr. stoplight and cross the river on the Inter-Urban Bridge.  Once you cross the river, the Inter-Urban Trail merges into the Saylorville Trail.

West View from HyVee.  Very winding road coming from 30th Street.

East View from HyVee.  You cross Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway with the aid of these traffic lights.

Lots of Traffic.  The best thing about these trails is the traffic on them.  You usually find yourself in sight of other walkers, joggers, and bikers.

Inter-Urban Trail where it crosses the Des Moines River and intersects into The Saylorville Trail.
