Looking a bit overcast, we have to make our way to that blue tent city in
the background.
Week Five Weather Report. Not
good news from the weather staff -- expect some rainy moments. In
other words, bring an umbrella or plan to get wet watching the fireworks.
Nobody wore a suit or tie, so no real damage done. The drizzle
probably cut our gate in half but according to our official counter, 350
showed up to see the band and watch the fireworks. As
always, FREE admission but you needed a wrist
band to purchase adult beverages.
Guest Photographer. Bob
Wheeler signed on as our rainy day photographer. He said his pictures
were a little dark, but it was the evening that made everything a little
dark. Our bodies were dampened but not our spirits.
BW
Pretty tricky setting under the trees and under umbrellas also.
BW
Tents and umbrellas were de rigueur. Lots of the kids were sans shoes.
Sky still relatively bright at 5 pm.
BW
Worker bees all enjoyed their temporary tent city -- very practical today.
BW
You didn't need an umbrella 100% of the time, just occasionally.
BW
Our main sponsors for
the evening presented SPAM, an all-girl singing group. They put in
several hours of singing time.
BW
They sang several hour-long sets -- right up till fireworks time.
BW
Lucky lookers found chair spaces under one of the several tents. (Not
everyone was that lucky.)
BW
John Morrissey kept dragging out more and more tents for the redezvousers.
BW
Even with all the tents, a pancho and a billed cap also worked out well.
BW
Or you could just stand around in the rain (like a country song).
BW
Here's two typical rendezvousers just standing in the rain.
BW
The sky was darkening but still not time for firewoks. Eat some more
burgers.
BW
Some of the bigwigs in charge of everything but the weather.
BW
Still a bit damp.
BW
More rendezvousers kept arriving.
BW
Meanwhile, on the other side of the island, the fireworks crew were prepping
their ordnance for the big show -- Fireworks Over Riverview.
BW
Lots and lots of ordnance.
BW
Meanwhile someone had to give SPAM a hug to keep them inspired. They
worked hard for their money -- right up to fireworks time.
BW
Just try to ignore that little bit of rain that can't dampen our spirits.
BW
Debating about popping those chairs open.
BW
As it darkened, the Mountain Dew drinkers got rowdier.
BW
When do the fireworks start, Tom?
BW
Is the crowd getting rowdy? Naw. Still fairly peaceful.
BW
He's not old enough to remember "Singing in the Rain," but he's living it.
BW
Almost time for the fireworks.
LA
Let the fireworks begin.
BW
Bob's made an excellent video of the fireworks. I can't figure how to
add it yet.
See you Next Week.
Special Encore performance by 35 South. Bring an umbrella (just
in case).
